Mystery alongside the canal San Martin !
Construction of the Canal Saint Martin was ordered by Napoleon I in the 19th century to bring a much-needed supply of drinking water into the city. Nowadays, the canal makes a pleasant walk on sunny days. The banks of the canal were not always so appealing, however; once they would have had many a dark and dramatic tale to tell. In the past, evildoers found them ideal hiding places for weapons and headless corpses. Robbers and thieves would stash their ill-gotten gains here. The environs of the canal were also once the scene of a somewhat unusual form of justice, the Justice des Rois. In the course of this guided tour, we will share with you a host of intriguing stories.
Our advice: What better way to go on these Indian summer days, than to extend your guided tour, with a lunch by the water, and climb up the canal on boat.
