Guided tour of the Eiffel Tower in Paris
How to celebrate the Universal Exhibition of 1889, centenary of the French Revolution? For this, the State launches a major competition published in the official journal.
The project of the Eiffel company is retained despite some reticiences. It was agreed that Eiffel would receive public subsidies of CHF 1.5 million and cover the rest of the cost from its own funds. But of course he gets a sizeable compensation: the operation of his tower for a period of 20 years, which was to ensure not only the reimbursement of expenses but also a substantial financial windfall for the coming years. The convention provided for guardrails, for example with the setting of the prices of visits during the Universal Exhibition, or that the tower would become a propertyof Paris at the end of the exhibition, with pleasure for 20 years for Gustave Eiffel. Thus December 31, 1909 was the last day of operation of the tower by Eiffel, according to this convention. The Eiffel Tower is now owned by the city of Paris.
A symbol of Paris and France, the Eiffel Tower is one of the most famous monuments in the world and one whose silhouette is most represented.
